Verification and AML
These rules apply to every player who opens an account, makes a deposit or asks for a withdrawal at Coquitlam Casino. They take effect when your account is created and remain in force while it stays open, including after you join Coquitlam Rewards or the VIP Club.
A. Why verification is required
We accept registrations only where local law permits online gambling, and we follow Canadian requirements for age verification, identity checks and anti-money laundering. These require us to identify each customer, confirm every player is an adult and ensure our cashier is never used to move criminal funds.
Verification protects you as well. It makes account takeover harder, stops others from using your payment methods and helps your withdrawals reach you. For this reason, deposits are accepted only after we have confirmed who you are and where you are located.
B. Where your money comes from
In certain cases we are required to confirm where the money you play with comes from. This can occur when deposits reach higher levels, when your account activity changes noticeably, or when your play does not match the information we hold. VIP Club members are also asked about their broader financial background.
Documents that help us include:
- an employment contract or recent payslips
- bank statements showing income and the transfers used to fund your account
- business accounts or tax paperwork
- paperwork for a property sale, investment or inheritance
Until the request is satisfied, deposits and withdrawals may be paused.
C. Record keeping and reporting duties
Once an account is closed, we retain verification documents, account details and complete transaction records for as long as Canadian law requires. They are stored securely and only authorized staff can access them, as set out in Your Privacy.
We report to the appropriate Canadian authorities whenever the law obliges us to, including on transactions we suspect could be tied to money laundering or terrorist financing and on certain large transactions. We are legally barred from revealing whether such a report has been filed.
D. Ongoing monitoring
Verification continues after your account is opened. We monitor activity in the Lobby, Live Casino and cashier, and request updated documents when existing ones expire. Patterns that lead to closer scrutiny include:
- deposits cashed out after little or no play
- payments made from a card, wallet or bank account belonging to someone else
- multiple accounts linked to one person, device or payment method
- sudden changes in deposit size, frequency or method
Only payment methods held in your name may be used. Deposits are accepted via Interac e-Transfer, Visa, Mastercard, Instadebit, Paysafecard, eCheck, Bank Wire / Transfer and Skrill. Withdrawals go out via Interac e-Transfer, Visa, Instadebit, eCheck, Bank Wire / Transfer or Skrill, normally to the method you deposited with.
E. Sanctions checks and politically exposed persons
At registration, and periodically afterwards, every player is screened against Canadian and international sanctions lists. Anyone under sanctions may not register or hold an account with us.
A politically exposed person is someone in a prominent public position now or in the past, for example a senior politician, judge, military commander or head of a state body. The term also covers their family members and known close associates. Such accounts are not refused automatically. We carry out enhanced checks instead, including questions on the source of funds and sign-off from a senior manager.
F. Identity checks, age checks and required documents
At registration, you provide your full legal name, date of birth and current residential address. Where possible, we check these details electronically against reliable data sources. Your date of birth must show that you are 19+.
If electronic checks do not give a clear result, or if a withdrawal or monitoring check requires it, we may request documents including:
- Identity: a valid passport, driver's licence or other photo identity card issued by a Canadian government.
- Address: a utility bill, a recent bank statement or official government correspondence, showing the name and address registered on your account.
- Payment method: a picture of the card front with its middle digits covered, a screenshot of your Skrill or Instadebit account displaying your name, or a bank statement for Interac e-Transfer, eCheck or wire payments.
- Selfie: if requested, a photo of yourself holding your identity document.
Every image must be clear, in full colour and uncropped, with all four corners visible. Documents can be uploaded in your account or sent to us by email.
G. When verification cannot be completed
We restrict any account where a document is missing, illegible or altered, or does not match the account details. Until the matter is resolved, you cannot deposit, play or withdraw.
Accounts are closed if the holder is under 19, used a false identity or is subject to sanctions. Winnings are voided, deposits go back to the original payment method where permitted by law, and any bonus is removed under our Bonus and Promotion Rules. If we suspect money laundering, we may hold funds and report it as the law requires.
